POSITION SUMMARY:













ESSENTIAL
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES



 


·        
Assess
the patient’s physical and psychosocial condition on an ongoing basis
throughout the continuum of care.


·        
Develop
a plan of patient care reflecting significant nursing diagnosis and
interventions to achieve desired patient outcomes, involving the
patient/family and healthcare team in this process.


·        
Implement
the patient plan of care in collaboration with the healthcare team.


·        
Evaluate
patient outcomes, effectiveness of plan of care, and readiness for discharge.


·        
Revise
as needed and make referrals when indicated.


·        
Complete
required documentation in an accurate and timely manner.


·        
Utilize
manual and automated information systems to improve efficiency and effect
productivity.


·        
Demonstrate
a current working knowledge of equipment, instrumentation, and medications.


·        
Adhere
to the standards, policies, procedures, and goals of the Hospital District.


·        
Act
as a liaison in coordinating patient care activities with nurses, physicians,
and allied health professionals.


·        
Communicate
patient’s plan of care and significant changes to all members of the
interdisciplinary team and to the patient, family, and significant others.


·        
Participate
in and support performance improvement and risk management activities.


·        
Provide
education as indicated after assessing the learning needs of the patient,
family, staff members and students.


·        
Demonstrate
cost effectiveness by using supplies judiciously, anticipating needs for
special supplies and equipment, and making recommendations for change.


·        
Complete
required continuous training and education, including department specific
requirements.


·        
Comply
with established personal protective equipment requirements necessary for
protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body
fluids, chemical disinfectants, radiation, asbestos, and other hazardous
substances.


·        
Attends
meetings and in-service sessions, as directed.


·        
Requires
regular attendance and punctuality.


·        
Performs
other assigned duties.


 


Emergency Room Coverage


 


·        
Initiates
assessment based on the patient's presenting problems or needs, the
physician's medical diagnosis and within 5 minutes of admission.


·        
Collects
key information from patient, family, laboratory, and other medical reports.
Implements T-System and documents assessment, including nursing diagnoses or
other clinical judgments.


·        
Completes
ongoing assessments as determined by patient condition.


·        
Performs
therapeutic nursing interventions as ordered by the Provider consistent with
primary and population-specific standards of care and practice.


·        
Determines
the impact of nursing interventions on the patient's condition and recognizes
the patient's progress towards meeting desired outcomes.


·        
Documents
care based on standards of care and practice and/or clinical priorities for
documentation including assessment and ongoing assessment findings, updated
clinical priorities for documentation and therapeutic nursing interventions
with special attention to patient education and discharge planning
interventions.


·        
Demonstrates
ability to manage the care of patients with conditions in the Emergency
Room. 


·        
Interacts
with patients/families with a variety of developmental and sociocultural
backgrounds.


·        
Provides
information to patients and families which reduces anxiety and conveys an
attitude of acceptance, sensitivity, and caring.


·        
Maintains
professional relationships and conveys relevant information to other members
of the health care team.


·        
Relays
information appropriately over telephone, pagers, and other communication devices.


 


 


 


Supervisory Responsibility:


This position directly supervises licensed
practical nurses, certified nurses’ aides, and ward clerks



 




 











MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS



Required Education and Experience


·        
Current
Registered Nurse License in good standing with the State of Colorado. 


·        
BLS.  ACLS, TNCC and PALS certifications required
within six months of hire.


 


Preferred Education and
Experience


·        
One
year of experience as an RN is highly preferred.

manage a sometimes-chaotic work environment related to changing patient
needs, including working with patients with acute, chronic, and complex
disease processes, and those who are dying.

Computer Skills: Proficiency in typing, using

PowerPoint as well as possess the ability to learn new software systems.


 


Other: Requires strong people skills,
verbal communication, and the ability to make immediate decisions based on
sound theory. Must be professional, flexible, caring, and compassionate and
exhibit a congenial and sensitive attitude toward patients.  Ability to establish and maintain effective
working relationships with patients, their families, and staff members.

Shift Information: 36hr/wk with potential for overtime; 6p-6a 3 shifts per week. (Holidays when needed)
